So far, I've defined abstract as removing the personal while still conveying emotion: focus on essential details and flatten the image. Still searching for more ideas.

I really like how you have detached the person, yet left the emotion of the subject intact. very nicely done! the colors are wonderful, and I think your abstract invoke quite a bit of thought and reflection which is perfect! Bravo!
