Olympia Urban Architecture

All night hot dog stand in front of Jake's Bar in Olympia.
They say the fresh dipped corn dogs are to die for.
I Love Olympia - need I say anymore?

This is the third image of the building we spoke of in Bellingham.

Lines ... it's all about lines ...

as I was traveling recently, thinking of our class project, I began taking fotos.
I think architecture is truly all about lines. for structure, for beauty, for direction. I like the departure foto as it has it all. a clock is ticking, the departures are leaving, the lady is looking for the line she needs to find ... romance? holiday? work?

ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Last but not least. I realized the top of this building was missing in the first picture I choose of this building. I like it best because of the artistic way the sidewalk was made into a sculpture with the upheaval of the concrete but in order to get the interest of the sidewalk I cut off the top of the building. It is still my favorite but thought it might make better sense with a full photo and a little explanation?

URBAN LANDSCAPES & ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOS

URBAN LANDSCAPES

150 Pictures later I am having a hard time deciding which ones to share. I became fascinated with the art work on the buildings and with the corner buildings utilizing maximum building area in a different shape than square. I also found a new appreciation for Bellingham. I saw things I had never noticed before and hours later I realized I will never look at it the same. The city is filled with so much talent and beauty even in what seemed dirty alleys. There were picture worthy scenes everywhere.

Where's Waldo?

This mystery site required finding a viewpoint, the use of a ladder and a pitstop for a Cherry Coke. All will be revealed on Tuesday.

The first person to identify the specific urban landscape, or come closest, will receive a small box of chocolate from my chocolate truffle class tomorrow.

More Tulips from Alison - it's that time of year!

Some friends and I visited the Pike Street Market on Monday and the flower sellers had the most fantastic tulip stems to sell.  This collection seemed perfectly matched in color.

I loved this Barn! Early morning sun. The grass was so green and the yellow dandelions sparkled mixed into it. The barn has probably withstood a lot of weather and as architecture I found it irresistible. Two things Lynden has plenty off and that would be barns and Churches.

Examples of Urban Landscapes

urban landscapes defined from http://www.urbanlandscape.org.uk/
what is it?

Urban landscape photography

  • in some way describe a town or city
  • represents an attempt to understand our experience of the city
  • shows a dedication to the subject, expressed through a body of work rather than isolated images
  • concentrates on structures or processes rather than on people
  • may deal in either details or a broader view

Urban landscape may be in black and white or colour, subminiature camera or large format, using any process, although this site will restrict itself to still photography. Urban landscape is distinct from 'street photography', which looks at urban experience largely through a study of the people who live it, although the two genres may overlap. Urban landscape photographs often include people, but they are cleary situated and existing in the structures of the town or city.
