that first shot is amazing! i love them all though :)
Are you really that close! The first shot gives us a hint of the whale's power.
No, we aren't that close... these are cropped. I was on a boat affiliated with the Birch Aquarium and they were great about keeping their distance. We also saw a mother and newborn. The mom was keeping the baby up near the surface to breathe frequently... really couldn't see them like the adults we saw, but could see their blows and the frequency etc. We didn't stay near them very long so as not to stress them.
