During breakfast, this Jay comes to the window to tell me it's time for peanuts. I've been feeding the Jays, a squirrel or 2 and a Towhee since our 10-day December snow in 2008.

Rainy morning on the Burke-Gilman Trail

Rain or shine, dogs gotta walk. Chaco is 13 yrs old and walks 3 times a day: that's 14,235 trips. Yellow-slicker dog is ready to walk in any kind of weather, any time of day.

My neighbor, Megan, for her graduation

We took these photos on a rainy afternoon. Megan didn't want those silly posed graduation photos or her mom taking them. They called me. I had taken photos of her older sister a couple years ago for her senior prom. While we shot the pictures, Megan's mom held the an umbrella and sometimes, when the sun came back, we used it to bounce light off her face. It was fun to see another young spirit, so full of life an possibility, about to launch into her adult life. It was beautiful to capture the moment. I get cookies for payment and lots of joy. I have watched this girl grow since she was in grade school. She is going off to Scripps University. Nice view of my neighborhood!

Flaming AND Early

This little flaming early bloomer is the other ballerina of the "tutu duo." My friend from Scotland is keeping her upright while the moms were trying to photograph the little girl in the pink tutu off to their right.

DBG Painting with Light class in Phoenix

Here's 1 of the 2 photos that worked the best during the Painting with Light class at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. It was actually pitch dark out (9:00pm), we shot for a long exposure and during the exposure the instructor moved the flashlight over the cactus plants. I was amazed that the stars showed up so well.

Seattle City Light cuts trees near power lines regardless of their size or distance from the lines.

• Cutting trees in April destroys bird nests during peak song bird nesting season.
• Cutting trees in a wide swath creates a gap in habitat shelter, a DMZ for urban wildlife.
• Cutting trees on hillsides creates soil erosion when missing leaves can't slow rainfall and tree roots won't absorb water.
• Cutting trees removes shade and raises the surrounding temperature.
• Cutting trees demoralizes people.

Fresh fallen snow on April 8, 2010 The train was sitting on the tracks at the Bayview Edison road off of Hwy 20 headed towards Annacortes. I really like the black and white of the train. The color is distracting to my eye but the black and white made it pop. Interesting lesson.
